What a beautiful day to be outside. What did you get up to today?
Welcome to Term 2
Term 2 brings an exciting change for Science at Flinders Park as we prepare for the redevelopment of a new STEM space for our school. This means science will become mobile. Term 2 curriculum in science will include the science understanding Earth and Space. Students from foundation to year 4 will explore daily and seasonal changes in our environment and how this affects our everyday lives, Earth’s resources and how they are used in a variety of ways and the changes of Earth’s surfaces over time as a result of natural processes and human activity.
As science is taught through a variety of hands on activities, science will be an outdoor classroom, “The discovery Playground.” Term 2’s focus is for students to experience the joy of scientific discovery and nurture their curiosity about the world around them. In doing this, they develop critical and creative thinking skills and challenge themselves to identify questions and draw evidence-based conclusions using scientific methods.

What’s it made of?
Students in reception and year 1 have created mobiles from loose parts to test how different types of materials will last outside in the weather? Will the colours change? Are all materials waterproof? Will they last in the rain, hail and sun?? Let’s wait and see. Make sure you check them out under the big tree near the science room.
Supermoon Tonight!!
What will happen next??
Quick Reflection on term 3
STEM- the latest buzz word
Have you heard of STEM. This is the latest push in schools to keep up to date with everything current in the world of Science, Technology,Engineering and Mathematics. This combination took us on a wonderful excursion to underdale high school to learn about their wonderful Lego robots. We spent the morning with half of Mr Birch’s 5/6’s programming and battling robots. So much fun. The other half of the class will go tomorrow with Mr Birch and Miss Libby.
